Justin, better known as Gunny, has been showing reining horses since 1994, when he started riding in the 13 and under division. Stating his young reining experience with Steve Archer, Gunny got a taste for being in the winner's circle right from the beginning. Miss Roan O Wood was one of the first horses that Gunny had a "big" win on, taking home first in his very first Rookie class. A Country Custom, from Custom Crome's very first foal crop, was shown by Stephen Archer and was an NRHA Open Futurity Finalist in 1998, Gunny went on to show this talented horse in 1999 in the Non Pro and Youth divisions.
In 2003 Gunny went to work with Tom McCutcheon and learned to hone his craft of showing great show horses. Tom gave Gunny some amazing opportunities to ride such great horses as Justanother Dun It, Lil Gay Star Peppy, Diamante Del Cielo, Dis Dolls A Dun It, Hurricaine Whiz, Spring Dun It, Ms Lil Ruf Freckles, Ruf Hearted Jac, Silver N Hickory, Lil Ruf N Classy, and Gunners Indian to name a few. At the beginning of 2007 Gunny started Mathison Reining Horses and it has been a great ride. With close to $300,000.00 in earnings Gunny is well on his way to making his dreams come true in the reining horse industry. Considered one of the top hands in the industry, Gunny can be found in the winner circle on both aged event horses as well as the older horse.
